Rangers Unlikely to Scrap Loan-to-Buy Deal for Cortes Despite Injury Concerns, Says Pundit

Stevie Clifford, host of the popular “Four Lads” podcast, believes Rangers are unlikely to back out of their loan-to-buy agreement for Colombian winger Oscar Cortes, despite recent injury setbacks.

Cortes, who joined Rangers on loan with an obligation to make the move permanent next summer, is facing time on the sidelines after missing the team’s recent Scottish Premiership clash with St. Johnstone. The injury update, reported by journalist Chris Jack on October 6, has raised concerns among some fans about whether the club will follow through with the deal.

However, Clifford dismissed the possibility of scrapping the agreement. Writing on social media platform X on October 7, he stated: “I know what you’re thinking, but an obligation to buy is exactly that. If the guy is injured in our training session, then I can’t see how any clause would allow us to scrap any agreement.”

Rangers supporters have yet to see the full potential of Cortes, who has been plagued by injuries since arriving in Glasgow. Nevertheless, Clifford believes the club’s recruitment team, led by manager Philippe Clement, knew what they were getting into when they signed the winger.

“They must have been convinced by the player if they agreed to bring him back this summer, even after an injury-hit loan spell last season,” Clifford added. “Yes, there are concerns about his fitness, and rightly so, but that doesn’t mean he won’t come good down the line.”
