Ally McCoist Apologises to Rangers Fans for Missing Tribute That Made Him Appear Rude

Ally McCoist has issued an apology to Rangers fans after missing a heartfelt tribute during last week’s Europa League match against Lyon.

The Rangers legend, who was awarded an OBE for his services to football and broadcasting by the Prince of Wales at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, was back at Ibrox the following day as part of the commentary team for TNT Sports. In honor of McCoist, Rangers displayed a special video tribute on the stadium’s screens, with fans applauding and chanting the former striker’s name.

However, McCoist was unaware of the tribute at the time, as he had his headphones on and was listening to producers. Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist explained: “I went to the Rangers game on Thursday night, and they very kindly did a thing on the screen for me. I need to apologise because I had my headphones on and I didn’t know it was on. The camera went on me, and it looks like I’m being really rude! It looks like I’m ignoring everybody!

“It’s as if this OBE has gone straight to my head. But I had my headphones on and had someone talking to me in the studio, so I didn’t know. If anybody is listening, then I apologise because it was a very thoughtful gesture.”

The 62-year-old’s apology was well received by fans, who appreciated the explanation for what many initially believed to be an unintentional snub.
