Former Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell has reignited speculation about a potential return to Ibrox after responding to a fan’s social media video celebrating his time at the club.
The 26-year-old, who left Rangers during the summer transfer window, spent just 18 months with the Light Blues before joining Blackburn Rovers. His departure followed reported disagreements with manager Philippe Clement. Since moving to Ewood Park, Cantwell has made 11 appearances under manager John Eustace, a former Rangers trialist.
Despite his exit, Cantwell’s affection for Rangers appears undiminished. He reposted a fan-made highlight reel of his performances at the club, adding a heartfelt caption: “Such a special club, we had some fun. You hold a massive piece of my heart. Maybe one day again.”
Cantwell’s departure from Rangers was marked by controversy. Following a pre-season friendly against Birmingham City, Clement revealed that the midfielder had submitted a transfer request. Addressing the situation, Cantwell offered his side of the story, saying:
“It was his decision to tell the press that was my decision. We’d spoken internally for a while before the season had finished. Ultimately, we couldn’t find a happy medium for both. The one thing I’m desperate to clear up is that I never, ever said I didn’t want to play for Rangers. That never came out of my mouth and never would.”
