Free agent Ryan Kent has reportedly made a significant decision regarding his future as speculation mounts about a potential return to Rangers. Key details surrounding his recent exit from Fenerbahçe have also come to light.
The winger had his lucrative contract in Istanbul terminated just 16 months after leaving the Scottish Premiership, having struggled for game time with the Turkish giants.
However, sources indicate that the 27-year-old is looking to continue his career outside the UK, which seems to diminish the likelihood of a move back to Rangers. The Daily Mail reports that Kent “could choose to stay abroad,” with interest from the Saudi Pro League, alongside potential interest from Leeds United, Ipswich Town, and Ajax, who were keen to secure a deal over the summer.
Earlier reports from the Middle East suggested that Kent had turned down interest from Steven Gerrard and former Rangers director of football Mark Allen at Al-Ettifaq, as he considered a possible exit in January. Gerrard may yet seek to rekindle a Rangers reunion in Saudi Arabia.
Since José Mourinho’s arrival at Fenerbahçe this summer, Kent has featured in only one match, leading the club to agree to terminate his contract, which was set to run until 2027. It is reported that Kent was prepared to escalate the situation to the Court of Arbitration for Sport if his departure had not been approved.
