Philippe Clement could be owed millions in a payoff from Rangers if he is sacked, according to David Edgar, host of the Heart & Hand Podcast. Edgar shared his insights via X on October 21, following Clement’s side’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock, which intensified scrutiny on the manager.
The loss not only squandered a chance to close the gap on Celtic and Aberdeen at the top of the league but also raised concerns about the financial implications of a managerial change. Rangers had extended Clement’s contract during the summer, meaning a dismissal could be costly.
“Literally no manager quits these days; they wait for a payoff,” Edgar stated, dismissing the likelihood of Clement resigning. When asked about the potential cost of a termination, he replied, “It would certainly be a few mil, aye.” This significant expense likely secures Clement’s position at Ibrox for the foreseeable future, regardless of performance.
Edgar noted that while Clement didn’t benefit from the same financial resources that former manager Michael Beale had two summers ago, there were still funds available in the last transfer window. However, if a new manager were to come in, those expenses could be added to the sunk costs if they opted for different signings.
