Rangers defender John Souttar put in a stellar performance for Scotland as they held Portugal to a 0-0 draw in their Nations League match on Tuesday.
Souttar, who was joined by fellow Rangers player Connor Barron in the Scottish squad, faced a formidable attacking trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Diogo Jota, and Francisco Conceição. Despite the Portuguese stars’ combined weekly wage of over €3.8 million, Souttar excelled in his defensive duties.
The Rangers center-back won 100% of his duels against the Portuguese players, including three ground battles and two aerial contests. He also made one block, one tackle, and five clearances, limiting Ronaldo to just one shot on target throughout the match.
Souttar’s impressive performance helped Scotland secure a valuable point against one of Europe’s top footballing nations. As Rangers prepare to return to Scottish Premiership action this weekend against Kilmarnock, they will be buoyed by the strong showing of their star defender.
