Nils Koppen has expressed his desire for defender John Souttar to remain with the club for the foreseeable future, highlighting the player’s crucial role in the team’s long-term strategy.
In an interview with the Rangers Review on October 15, Koppen emphasized Souttar’s deep understanding of the club’s identity, stating, “He is one of the players in the Gers squad who understands the DNA of the club and is consequently important to long-term progress.”
Koppen underscored the necessity of stability within the squad, especially for new arrivals who need experienced leaders to guide them. “Of course, you need some of these guys, like John Souttar, to stay for a long time at the club. Guys who understand the DNA of the football club can pass that knowledge onto new players,” he said.
Koppen further elaborated on the importance of ambition among players, noting that a significant portion of the squad should have aspirations of progressing within the team. “That’s super important,” he added. “But 80 per cent of these players who move to the club should come with the ambition to go. Ultimately, that is only achieved by winning and progressing so that everyone can benefit – the club and the player.”
