Alan Rough has expressed deep concerns regarding Philippe Clement’s position as manager of Rangers, suggesting he is in a “horrible situation” with fans increasingly wanting him gone. The former Celtic goalkeeper spoke candidly about the challenges facing the club during an appearance on PLZ Soccer on November 1.
Rough highlighted the financial difficulties the club is experiencing, noting a recent announcement of £17.2 million in net losses. “They’ve already put out there the state that the club’s in; I think it’s £17 million or something like that,” he said. However, he emphasized that the financial woes are not the only concern. “I don’t think it goes down to money. I think if they sack him, they’ll have something in his contract for compensation.”
Clement’s position has become increasingly precarious, particularly with Rangers now sitting nine points behind the league leaders. Rough recalled his own experiences with fan discontent, stating, “I’ve been there sitting on a board when the fans don’t want you there; it’s a horrible experience. It’s not only you; it’s your family, it’s who you’ve brought as a guest.”
As tensions rise at Ibrox, the future of Philippe Clement remains uncertain, with supporters voicing their frustrations and the club facing significant financial challenges.
