Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has suggested that Philippe Clement could lose his job as Rangers manager before the upcoming Scottish League Cup final against Celtic if performances don’t improve.
Clement is under mounting pressure after Rangers’ disappointing 1-1 draw against Dundee United at Ibrox on 23 November. With Patrick Stewart set to begin his tenure as the club’s CEO on 16 December, just a day after, Boyd believes decisive action could come sooner if results don’t turn around.
Speaking on The Scottish Sun Sport’s YouTube channel, Boyd said:
“If it keeps going the way it is right now, it (sacking Clement) might be done before that (final v Celtic). That first 45 minutes on Saturday is arguably the worst 45 minutes I have seen in a game of football.”
Rangers’ form has been inconsistent under Clement, raising concerns among fans and pundits. With the high-stakes clash against Celtic looming, the club’s hierarchy may be forced to make a critical decision about the Belgian’s future.
