Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has criticized the club’s decision to promote Nils Koppen to the role of technical director, questioning whether the Belgian has done enough to justify the new position.
Koppen, who has served as Rangers’ director of football recruitment since December 2023, was announced in his new role on 19 November. However, Boyd voiced his concerns about the move during an appearance on The Sun’s Go Ballistic show.
“Why would you give someone a promotion when you don’t have someone above them?” Boyd questioned, expressing his surprise at the decision. “I think you’ve got to earn the right to that promotion, and there’s nothing to suggest that Nils Koppen has earned this.”
Boyd also highlighted fans’ dissatisfaction with the team’s recent recruitment under Koppen’s leadership. “Right now, the fans only see what has come through the door, and it’s not been good enough. It’s not been good enough,” he added.
