Rangers Transfer Door Opened for Morgan Whittaker by Key Plymouth Argyle Individual

Plymouth Argyle has indicated that they will not block a potential transfer for winger Morgan Whittaker, should Rangers make a formal approach. Neil Dewsnip, the club’s director of football, addressed the club’s transfer policy, emphasizing their willingness to accommodate players who wish to leave.

“We shouldn’t be frightened of that. We should take that as a compliment,” Dewsnip stated, referring to the interest from other clubs in Argyle players. “We don’t want to lose our best players, let me absolutely state strongly, but if we get to a point whereby whoever it may be wants to leave, then we have to understand that and plan accordingly. We need to find others who can keep Argyle moving in the direction we want it to go—onwards and upwards.”

Whittaker, 23, has been a target for Rangers for some time, with previous bids, including a notable offer of around £7 million with add-ons, reportedly turned down during the summer transfer window. Last season, he scored 18 goals for Plymouth, and his potential move has been under scrutiny since the days of former Rangers manager Michael Beale when he was at Swansea City.

Discussing Whittaker’s significance to the team, Dewsnip remarked, “He’s a major part of our attacking prowess. The threat hasn’t gone away. I think it has got harder for Morgan because people are aware of what he can do.”

He noted that Whittaker’s performance was affected when fellow attacker Finn Azaz left the club in January, which limited his supply of scoring opportunities. However, Dewsnip expressed optimism about the current squad, stating, “This year, I believe we have more attacking options. Morgan is part of our attacking prowess; he is not the only part of that.”

Plymouth’s director also highlighted Whittaker’s recent performance, noting, “We are really pleased Morgan is still with us. He proved his worth again for us against Blackburn with a kind of goal he rarely scores—a fantastic guided header into the bottom corner.”
