Nils Koppen Moots ‘Brave’ Rangers Sale at Ibrox Already

Nils Koopen, Rangers’ director of football, has suggested the club should be open to the idea of selling star player Jefte if a reasonable offer comes in, despite his impressive start to the season. Jefte, who joined Rangers in June 2024, has quickly become a key figure, featuring in five of the club’s seven league fixtures and delivering top performances.

In an interview with Rangers Review on 15 October, Koopen outlined the club’s approach to managing interest in their standout players. “If we have a player like Jefte who is doing well and the right offer comes in, we should sell him and be brave enough to say that we can find the next one,” said Koopen.

Rangers are currently third in the Scottish Premiership, five points behind Celtic and Aberdeen, with the same number of games played. While the sale of a key player like Jefte could offer financial benefits, Koopen emphasized the importance of maintaining performance levels. “The time to sell players will always come, but we can’t afford to consider it while our current performance levels are below what’s expected.”

Jefte has been instrumental for the Gers this season, with an average match rating of 7.24, according to FotMob. Although selling him might provide a financial boost, it also risks disrupting the team’s positive momentum on the pitch. Replacing key players is never straightforward, and Koopen acknowledges the fine balance required. “It’s easier said than done replacing players, and while it’s possible we could sell Jefte and maintain the quality with a portion of the money, there’s also a risk that we won’t,” he added.
