Mark Warburton, former manager of Rangers, has expressed interest in reigniting his relationship with the club after his controversial exit from Ibrox a few years ago. Warburton, who led the Gers from 2015 to 2017, is now taking on a new role as a director for American club Sporting Club Jacksonville. In this position, he will oversee decisions for the men’s, women’s, and youth teams.
As Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises are in talks to take over Rangers, Warburton sees a unique opportunity for collaboration. He believes that a partnership with a renowned club like Rangers would greatly benefit the newly formed USL team. Warburton emphasized the importance of creating player pathways and forming global connections, particularly with major British clubs like Rangers and Celtic, who have fanbases worldwide.
Speaking to The Scottish Sun on March 25th, Warburton stated, “Every club in the world is looking for bigger recruitment talent and bigger player pools. It’s about creating player pathways. When you talk about major British clubs, Rangers and Celtic are global institutions with global fan bases. So absolutely, you would be very fortunate to partner with these types of clubs. It’s only a matter of time before it’s taken forward.”
It seems that Warburton is optimistic about the future of partnerships between US and UK football, and his connection with Rangers could soon be rekindled.
