Derek McInnes a Strong Candidate for Rangers Manager Position, Says Kris Boyd

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has named Derek McInnes as the leading contender to replace Philippe Clement as manager of the Light Blues. Boyd emphasized the necessity for Rangers to have a contingency plan in place for Clement’s potential exit, criticizing the “powers that be” if they fail to act.

“Derek McInnes would be the obvious one that jumps out in terms of Scotland,” Boyd stated during the broadcast on October 31. “I think Rangers do need to get back to basics, I really do.”

While Boyd acknowledges McInnes’s prior connection to Rangers, he pointed out that the Kilmarnock boss is unlikely to publicly entertain the speculation due to his current responsibilities. “He’s in charge of another Scottish Premiership team and he’s not going to get drawn into it,” Boyd noted.

Reflecting on McInnes’s past associations with Rangers, he added, “He’s obviously had his connection with Rangers in the past… and he’s been offered the job before but decided to turn it down for whatever reason.”

Despite the challenges currently facing the club, Boyd maintains that Rangers still possess significant allure in the global football arena. “Rangers, even right now when they’re struggling, are still a huge organization, with still a worldwide appeal,” he concluded.
