Utrecht Eye Permanent Sam Lammers Deal Despite Pay Cut Requirement

Utrecht have set their sights on signing Sam Lammers on a permanent basis after the striker’s impressive loan spell from Rangers. Lammers has rediscovered his scoring touch in the Netherlands, netting 10 goals in total for Utrecht, including a strike in their recent 3-3 draw with AZ Alkmaar.

This comes in stark contrast to his time at Rangers, where Lammers struggled to find the net, managing just two goals in 31 appearances.

Utrecht sporting director Jordy Zuidam acknowledged the challenge Utrecht faces in meeting Lammers’ current salary demands. “It’s clear Sam is above our salary cap,” Zuidam admitted. “But we reached an agreement with Rangers that was acceptable to us.”

Zuidam emphasized Utrecht’s determination to secure Lammers permanently. “Now we have to find a way with Sam and his club to keep him,” he said. “We are fully committed to signing Sam permanently.”

Praising Lammers’ impact, Zuidam continued, “He is a very important member of our team. We did everything we could to bring him here on loan and we will do everything possible to bring him here on a permanent deal.”

Zuidam revealed discussions have already taken place with Lammers. “We have spoken to him several times and he is really a boy who is obsessed with football,” Zuidam said. “He has said that he wants to finish the season, but is definitely considering it.”

With Lammers’ decision still pending, Zuidam underlined Utrecht’s commitment to finding a solution. “We will look for all possibilities to keep him,” he said. “I hope that is enough.”
