Todd Cantwell to Formalise Ibrox Exit as Club Executive Jets in for Transfer Talks

Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell is on the verge of completing a move to Turkish side Trabzonspor, according to a report from Karadeniz Gazete.

The Turkish outlet revealed on Thursday, 8 August, that one of Trabzonspor’s top executives flew to Glasgow on Wednesday to meet with Cantwell, who has submitted a transfer request. The Englishman is reportedly keen on making the switch to Turkey, viewing it as the right step in his career after positive talks during the face-to-face meetings.

Rangers are likely to expedite Cantwell’s departure as they seek to offload his wages before the transfer window closes. With the midfielder expressing his desire to leave Ibrox, the club is expected to negotiate a transfer fee that reflects his age and profile, despite his value potentially dipping due to the transfer request.

Manager Philippe Clement, who has been focused on reshaping the squad this summer, may see Cantwell’s sale as a necessary move to free up funds for further additions. Although his value may have decreased slightly, Rangers are still hopeful of securing a multimillion-pound fee for the 25-year-old.

Reports from Turkey suggest that the deal could progress quickly, with Cantwell’s exit potentially being finalized ahead of Rangers’ upcoming match against Motherwell. If the two clubs can agree on a fee, personal terms are not expected to be an obstacle.
