Todd Cantwell has firmly denied claims that he ever refused to play for Rangers, following his permanent transfer to Blackburn Rovers. The former Norwich City midfielder addressed fans directly through Instagram posts, dispelling rumors surrounding his departure from Ibrox.
Cantwell completed his £500,000 move to Ewood Park on Transfer Deadline Day, amid reports that he had requested to leave the club earlier in the summer. Philippe Clement, Rangers’ manager, had revealed during preseason that Cantwell had asked for a transfer, leading to the midfielder being relegated to training with the B Team and not featuring in any matches.
In his first Instagram post on Deadline Day, Cantwell expressed his gratitude to Rangers fans, writing, “It was an absolute honour to play for this special football club! Please do not believe all you read in the press! I wish everyone well for the future! Mon the Gers!”
The following morning, Cantwell followed up with a more detailed message, emphasizing his commitment to the club during his time at Ibrox. “It’s been an honour to play for this incredible football club,” he wrote. “Some of the staff behind the scenes are the hardest of workers but also incredible people. I have enjoyed every moment of playing in the famous blue and gave 100% every time I did. I never and would never say I didn’t want to play for the club and that was never my decision. Me and my family are Rangers for life. I signed for a different Rangers than the one that I leave. Mon the Gers.”
Cantwell’s statements seek to clarify his position and assure fans of his dedication to the club, even as he embarks on a new chapter with Blackburn Rovers.
