Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq Want to Sign Rangers Defender

Reports from HITC suggest that Glasgow Rangers’ captain, James Tavernier, remains a key target for clubs in the Saudi Pro League, including Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq.

Tavernier, 32, has solidified his status as a Rangers legend during his tenure at Ibrox, amassing an impressive record of 122 goals and 127 assists across all competitions from his right-back position. This season, under the management of Philippe Clement, Tavernier has been instrumental in Rangers’ position at the summit of the Scottish Premiership, contributing 14 goals and eight assists.

Highlighting his impact, Tavernier netted the decisive goal in Rangers’ victory over Aberdeen in the League Cup final last December. Sources reveal that Gerrard, who previously attempted to secure Tavernier’s services last summer, is eager to bring him to Al-Ettifaq. Moreover, there is reported interest from other teams owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Tavernier notably clinched his only Scottish Premiership title under Gerrard’s guidance in the 2020/21 season, thwarting arch-rivals Celtic’s bid for a historic tenth consecutive title.

While Tavernier is focused on leading Rangers to another league triumph, he remains a coveted target for several clubs in Saudi Arabia.
