In the midst of swirling transfer rumors, German club St Pauli has categorically denied any interest in signing Rangers forward Fashion Sakala. Speculation had linked the Zambia star with a potential move to the Bundesliga side, as Rangers actively pursue new signings that could potentially push Sakala down the pecking order. However, St Pauli’s sports director, Andreas Bornemann, swiftly dismissed these claims, emphasizing that the club prefers to conduct its own player searches.
Speaking about the rumors, Bornemann acknowledged that speculation is a natural part of the game and that the football rumor mill is always abuzz. He expressed his astonishment at the extent of the rumors circulating and the wide array of players supposedly linked to the club. Bornemann highlighted that St Pauli’s recent interest in players like Jackson Irvine and Oladapo Afolayan from the UK seemed to have sparked unfounded speculations about connections to Fashion Sakala.
“While it’s true that agents have been contacting us more frequently during this period, offering us players, we still prefer to take charge of our own scouting efforts,” Bornemann clarified.
Fashion Sakala joined Rangers two years ago from Oostende, showcasing a respectable record of 24 goals in a blue shirt. Despite facing criticism for occasional erratic performances, Sakala proved his worth towards the end of the previous season, earning an important role under the guidance of Michael Beale. Nonetheless, rumors emerged suggesting St Pauli’s potential interest in the player, only to be swiftly quashed by the club’s sports director.
With the recent signing of Sam Lammers from Atalanta and an ongoing pursuit of Cremonense’s Cyriel Dessers, Rangers’ forward line is experiencing significant changes, possibly prompting speculation regarding Sakala’s future. However, St Pauli’s denial puts an end to any such conjecture, firmly establishing that the German club is not pursuing a transfer for the talented Zambian forward.
