Sky Sports Share New Jack Butland England Update as International Recall Mooted

Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland is anticipated to secure a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming March international fixtures, as reported by Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett.

Dorsett revealed that the Ibrox stopper is set to make his first international appearance in over five years during the friendlies against Belgium and Brazil later this month. The injury ruling out Newcastle United’s Nick and the shifting dynamics at Arsenal, where Aaron Ramsdale is now second choice behind David Raya, have made it “almost certain” that Southgate will opt for Butland when he unveils the squad on Thursday (14 March).

In addition to Butland’s potential return, other notable names are expected to make a mark in the Three Lions squad. Joe Gomez is poised to end his four-year absence, while Ivan Toney looks set for a recall following his return from an eight-month ban.

Observers familiar with Butland’s performances under Philippe Clement at Rangers this season acknowledge that the Englishman is more than deserving of an international call-up, showcasing remarkable displays at Ibrox.

While the question of whether Butland will displace Jordan Pickford from the starting role remains unanswered, the 31-year-old goalkeeper is widely regarded as one of the top three English keepers currently in action. This overdue recognition reflects his exceptional performances throughout the season.
