Sky Sports Pundit Slams Flop Ibrox Pair as Fabio Silva, Mohamed Diomande Shine

Rangers’ recent recruitment efforts have received high praise following the disappointing signings of Sam Lammers and Jose Cifuentes. Kris Boyd had previously criticized the on-loan duo as “howlers” in his Scottish Sun column.

However, the mood has shifted with the arrival of January replacements Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande, who showcased their prowess in a commendable 2-2 draw against Benfica. Both players initially joined on loan, with Diomande’s move expected to become permanent in the summer.

Boyd, pleased with the recent acquisitions, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s resurgence. He stated, “The displays of Diomande and Silva in Lisbon on Thursday night may well have propelled Gers towards the last eight of the Europa League.”

Having been vocal about Rangers’ recruitment struggles in the past, Boyd acknowledged the mistakes made with Cifuentes and Lammers last summer, emphasizing that both players have since departed the club. However, he highlighted the positive shift in the team’s transfer strategy, especially during the January window.

“Seven months on, neither is even at the club anymore. But January seems to have been another matter altogether… Diomande and Silva are starting to show valuable additions CAN be landed in the middle of the season,” Boyd commented.

Boyd also singled out Diomande’s tenacity, suggesting that the midfielder has put established players Nico Raskin and Ryan Jack on notice. Additionally, he praised Silva for his standout performance in the absence of the injured Abdallah Sima, noting that the player “shone” in the left role during the match in Portugal.
