Scott Wright has opened up about his decision to leave Rangers for Birmingham City, after scoring a crucial late goal on his debut for the League One club. Wright netted the decisive strike to secure a 2-1 victory for the Blues over Wigan Athletic at St. Andrew’s, just days after completing his move.
Wright joined Birmingham City in a £300,000 deal last week, with the club continuing to invest heavily in their bid for promotion from the English third tier. The 27-year-old winger, who had featured in Rangers’ first two league matches of the season and in their Champions League qualifiers against Dynamo Kyiv, was allowed to leave as the Scottish club pursued new targets.
Speaking to Birmingham Live, Wright shared his thoughts on the transfer: “I was getting game time at Rangers, but I just felt like it was time for a new challenge for me. Once I had spoken to [Birmingham City], it was a no-brainer. Being part of this project and journey was something that really interested me.”
Wright also discussed the quick pace of the move: “I signed on the Friday, and it all came up on Tuesday or Wednesday. It really moved at a fast rate, but after talking with my family and my wife, we thought it was the right step for me.”
Wright’s debut goal has only fueled excitement for his potential impact at Birmingham City as they continue to push for promotion this season.
