Former Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack has stressed the critical need for the team to secure a victory against Motherwell after a disappointing start to the season, which has seen them fail to win in their first two matches.
Speaking on The Warm-Up on 9 August, Jack pointed out that despite several new signings during the summer, only one—Connor Barron—was included in the starting lineup for Rangers’ opening day draw against Hearts. This lack of impact from new recruits has contributed to growing frustration among fans.
“You sign [Barron] for free from Aberdeen, and he’s the only one that’s in the team when you play Hearts away,” Jack said. “So I’ve seen there’s obviously been a bit of backlash on transfers and whatnot.”
The pressure has mounted after another draw, this time against Dynamo Kyiv in midweek, leaving manager Philippe Clement still searching for his first win of the season ahead of the match at Hampden on 10 August. Jack made it clear that a positive result is essential to avoid the situation escalating further.
“Rangers need to go and get a result this weekend and kickstart the season,” he continued. “You can’t leave it two, three, four, five games to be in that position, and if it doesn’t go well, the pressure builds and builds, and then something breaks.”
