Rangers Winger Scott Wright Criticized for Underperformance

Scott Wright’s performance for Rangers has come under scrutiny, with David Edgar, host of the Heart & Hand podcast, expressing his frustration on social media. Edgar took to X on 6 August to voice his concerns after Wright was substituted at half-time in the 1-1 draw against Dynamo Kyiv. This followed another substitution in the 60th minute during the goalless draw against Hearts on the opening day of the season (3 August).

Edgar didn’t mince words in his criticism of Rangers manager Philippe Clement for continuing to give the 26-year-old midfielder opportunities. “How many times does Wright need to be subbed at half-time before the penny drops?” he questioned.

When asked to clarify his comments, Edgar pointed directly at Clement. “He’s not picking himself. He isn’t good enough; it’s proven time after time but there he was starting again.”

Wright’s career with the Light Blues seemed to be winding down a year ago when a transfer to Pendikspor for £500,000 appeared imminent. However, Wright himself seemed hesitant about the move when caught by Sky Sports at the airport, and the transfer ultimately fell through.

This summer, Wright is again considered a likely candidate for departure if a suitable offer comes in. Reports suggest multiple clubs in England and overseas are interested in him, including Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday, despite their Financial Fair Play (FFP) concerns.
