Jose Cifuentes is on the verge of a loan move from Rangers to Cruzeiro, as reported by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Romano, known for his reliable transfer news, took to Twitter on Sunday (4 February) to announce that a verbal agreement had been reached between the Brazilian club and Rangers for the temporary transfer of the Ecuadorian international.
The 24-year-old midfielder reportedly chose Cruzeiro over two European offers, expressing his desire to secure a regular starting position ahead of the upcoming Copa America. It has become evident that Cifuentes does not fit into the plans of Rangers’ manager Philippe Clement, making it sensible for the Gers to facilitate the loan deal.
The impending move is met with disappointment from all involved parties, considering the efforts made to bring Cifuentes in from LAFC last summer. Rangers reportedly invested £1.2 million to secure his services just months before his contract with the MLS side was due to expire.
While Romano did not disclose the presence of a buy option in the deal, Ge Globo reported on January 31 that Rangers were seeking to include a £2 million option-to-buy clause.
