Rangers Unlikely to Pursue Nathan Patterson Return

Rangers are unlikely to make a move for Everton right-back Nathan Patterson during the January transfer window, despite speculation linking the Scotland international with a return to Ibrox.

Patterson, 24, left Rangers to join Everton in January 2022 but has struggled for regular first-team football on Merseyside. He has made 63 appearances for the Toffees in total, including just five outings this season under manager David Moyes.

Everton are understood to be open to letting the defender leave should a suitable offer arrive, with the club keen to strengthen at right-back. Patterson has 18 months remaining on his contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

However, Rangers are not expected to be among the clubs pursuing his signature. Strengthening the right-back position is not currently viewed as a priority by Rangers’ recruitment team, with focus instead placed on other areas of the squad.

The Scottish Premiership side are well stocked in that position, with captain James Tavernier, Dujon Sterling and Max Aarons all available, reducing the likelihood of a move for Patterson.

While a return to Glasgow appears unlikely, Patterson could still depart Everton this month in search of more regular playing time. Increased minutes would be crucial as he looks to boost his chances of earning a place in Scotland’s World Cup squad later this year.
