Rangers Supporters Unlikely to Welcome Todd Cantwell Back After Transfer Request, Says Derek Ferguson

Rangers supporters are unlikely to welcome Todd Cantwell back into the squad after the midfielder’s recent transfer request, according to former player Derek Ferguson.

Philippe Clement, Rangers’ manager, revealed on July 25 that Cantwell, previously of Norwich City, had requested a transfer twice before being assigned to train with the B Team. Ferguson, a former favorite at Ibrox, expressed his surprise that Cantwell sought to leave the club without having a concrete destination lined up.

“It’s baffling because I thought when he asked for a transfer, there must have been two or three clubs sniffing about, ready to take him on board,” Ferguson told Ibrox News. “Here we are a month later, and there’s absolutely no news. He’s training but he’s not even playing. It’s absolutely bizarre.”

Ferguson acknowledged Clement’s decision to keep the door open for Cantwell’s return, saying, “Credit to the manager this time. He said, ‘Listen, have a think about it and come back to me because there’s a position in the squad where we would welcome you back.’ It seems Cantwell has knocked that back.”

As the situation stands, Cantwell remains in limbo, training with the reserves but not featuring in the first team, leaving the club in an unusual position with a high-profile player sidelined.
