Rangers Stars James Tavernier and Connor Goldson Remain Subject of Saudi Arabia Transfer Rumors

Rumors linking Rangers defenders James Tavernier and Connor Goldson with a move to Saudi Arabia this summer persist, according to Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack.

Jack spoke on the Rangers Review YouTube channel [Rangers Review YouTube channel, May 23rd, 14:15] and revealed, “Outside of Jack Butland, this is going to be the big talking point about departures for the next wee while.”

Jack continued, “I spoke to somebody I know out in Saudi about this yesterday and there is still chat over there about these two joining up with Steven Gerrard so it is not just a story over here, it is doing the rounds over there as well.”

These reports first surfaced in the Daily Record back in April, suggesting former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, now managing Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, is keen on a reunion with his former players [Daily Record, April 24th].

While neither Rangers nor the players have commented on the speculation, Jack’s report suggests the rumors hold weight in Saudi Arabia as well.

The Rangers defense has struggled this season, with both Tavernier and Goldson failing to meet their usual high standards. Manager Philippe Clement has downplayed Goldson’s recent absence, claiming it was due to rotation, but the defender failed to regain his starting spot before a season-ending injury.

With new central defenders reportedly on Rangers’ radar, the club might be receptive to offers for Goldson this summer, particularly if the price is right.
