Cyriel Dessers has opened up about the tense atmosphere in the Rangers dressing room following their disappointing defeat to St Mirren, revealing that “hard words” were exchanged after the match.
Speaking to RangersTV, Dessers admitted that it had been a “really difficult afternoon” for the team, adding that the loss, especially on home turf, was hard to accept. “It’s tough to take,” he said. “It’s a tough loss and especially at home. That’s not what you want to show here.”
The striker expressed the team’s frustration with not being able to bounce back after their previous home game, where they had hoped to deliver a strong performance for their supporters. “After our last home game, we wanted to bounce back and give the fans something, and we obviously didn’t,” he added.
Dessers was quick to credit St Mirren, acknowledging their solid game plan, but noted that Rangers failed to respond effectively. “St Mirren’s not a bad team. They had a good plan and we didn’t have enough answers for that,” he said. “We didn’t give them enough difficult moments where they gave them to us.”
Looking back on the performance, Dessers pointed to several areas of concern, stating that the team was lacking both technically and tactically, as well as in mentality. “Overall, it was not enough; technically, tactically and in mentality,” he concluded.
Rangers will now look to regroup and address the issues raised in the wake of this disappointing result.
