Rangers Secure Transfer of Brazilian Left-Back Jefte from Fluminense

Rangers Football Club have secured the transfer of Brazilian left-back Jefte from Fluminense, according to reports in Brazil.

The Gers had previously attempted to sign the 20-year-old in January, but a loan deal with Cypriot club APOEL Nicosia included an option to buy, and APOEL were initially interested in exercising that option.

“Despite Apoel’s interest in keeping the player,” a Fluminense media outlet reported, “Jefte will be a player for Rangers, in Scotland, from July onwards. Deal confirmed.”

Jefte’s arrival comes as Rangers look to bolster their defensive options. “He will replace Borna Barisic in the squad and compete with Ridvan Yilmaz for a game at left-back,” the report continued. Barisic is out of contract and looks set to depart Ibrox for Turkish club Trabzonspor.

Rangers manager Phillipe Clement reportedly remained interested in Jefte throughout the process, and the player himself seems to have favored a move to Ibrox over returning to APOEL.

In addition to Jefte, Rangers are also reportedly close to signing Panamanian defender Jose Cordoba from Levski Sofia. The clubs are believed to be finalizing transfer fees after agreeing personal terms with the player.
