Rangers Need to Offload Cyriel Dessers to Sign New Striker Before Transfer Deadline

Rangers must sell Cyriel Dessers if they hope to bring in a high-caliber striker before the transfer window closes on 30 August, according to journalist Chris Jack.

Speaking on the Rangers Review , Jack highlighted the club’s financial limitations, which make a significant new signing unlikely as long as both Dessers and Danilo remain on the roster.

The Gers have shown interest in Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland this summer, while there have also been rumors of Dessers potentially moving abroad. Jack explained the financial predicament:

“If you say we need an upgrade on Cyriel Dessers, that’s going to be a £3-4-5 million striker who demands wages at that level, which Rangers clearly don’t have. You can’t have a £5 million new recruit, plus a £4 million Dessers, plus a £6 million Danilo, all on the thick end of £30,000-a-week when you only play one striker.”

“Until Dessers leaves, I don’t see how they can carry another striker of that level.”

Rangers’ lackluster 0-0 draw with Hearts at Tynecastle in their season opener underscored the need for further reinforcements at Ibrox.

Connor Barron was the only new face in the starting lineup, while Dessers led the attack but failed to find the net in a passive performance. The draw has amplified calls for fresh talent to bolster the squad.

With the transfer deadline looming, Rangers face a critical decision on how to strengthen their squad for the season ahead.
