Rangers Midfielder Ianis Hagi Faces Ibrox Exit after Loan Spell

Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi is expected to be sold this summer after failing to impress during his loan spell at La Liga side Deportivo Alaves, according to Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack.

The 25-year-old Romanian international returned to Spain in a season-long loan deal but struggled for regular playing time, starting just seven league matches and registering only two assists.

While Hagi showed glimpses of his talent in Alaves’ heavy defeat to Real Madrid, Jack doesn’t believe he will be part of manager Philippe Clement’s plans moving forward.

“I would be very surprised, to be honest,” Jack said on The Rangers Review YouTube channel [Rangers Review YouTube channel, May 17th, 2024]. “Hagi’s Rangers career just hasn’t gone the way we thought it would.”

Jack pointed to a long-term injury as a turning point for Hagi at Ibrox. “That wee injury all but ended his time there unfortunately,” he said. “It’s disappointing for him, but I think Rangers have just moved on and it’s probably best for him to do the same.”

“Hagi is almost a forgotten asset who is outside of the building right now,” Jack continued. “He will return this summer, but I don’t think it will be for very long.”
