Rangers Midfielder Ianis Hagi Determined to Stay, but Faces Uncertain Future Under Philippe Clement

Rangers star Ianis Hagi is eager to remain at the club and rebuild his career at Ibrox, despite facing challenges in rejoining the first team. However, new manager Philippe Clement may need to make difficult decisions regarding Hagi’s future with the squad.

According to a report by Hamish McRae in the Scottish Sun, the Romanian international, who shone during Euro 2024 until his team’s quarter-final exit, is open to reviving his journey at Rangers. Hagi has been relegated to the B team, but he remains hopeful of returning to the main squad.

Clement, however, does not currently see Hagi, nor fellow midfielder Todd Cantwell, as part of his plans moving forward. Despite this, Hagi made headlines last week by scoring a hat-trick in a 5-3 victory over Derby County while playing for the reserves, keeping his name in the spotlight.

Earlier this summer, Clement acknowledged that Rangers must sell players before making new signings, with Hagi and Cantwell among those potentially on the transfer list. This reality makes Hagi’s aspirations to stay and contribute to the team less likely to be fulfilled. Hagi, who spent last season on loan at Alaves in Spain without scoring a single goal, has struggled to find his place at Rangers and has been viewed as a misfit at the club.

Although his time at Alaves did little to boost his reputation, Hagi’s undeniable talent suggests he could still perform at a high level for a top team. Notably, he advanced further in the Euros than any other member of Clement’s squad.
