Rangers Midfielder Cifuentes Set for Ibrox Return After Loan Disappointment

Ecuadorian midfielder Jose Cifuentes is expected to return to Rangers when his loan at Cruzeiro ends in December, according to the Daily Record.

Cifuentes’ loan spell in Brazil has been underwhelming, with just one start for Cruzeiro despite a purchase option included in the deal. The 25-year-old was one of manager Michael Beale’s signings during his tenure at Rangers, but failed to make a significant impact.

Cifuentes arrived with promise after a strong showing at LAFC, but his time at Ibrox was marred by a red card against Dundee before his loan move. The switch to Cruzeiro was intended to revive his career, but with limited playing time, that goal hasn’t been achieved.

Unless he manages to improve his game over the next few months, the Gers could be stuck with another player on their books burning a wage.

It also remains to be seen how Cifuentes would even fit into the squad with new additions Connor Barron and the returning Ianis Hagi both taking up similar positions.

In other Rangers news, an update has been shared amid the Gers’ quest for new attacking talent.
