Rangers’ frustrating start to the Scottish Premiership season may prompt a shift in their transfer strategy following an injury to Oscar Cortes, according to journalist Dan Bardell.
The Gers were held to a goalless draw against Hearts at Tynecastle Park in their season opener, and their disappointment was further compounded when Colombian winger Cortes was forced off with an injury just four minutes into the second half.
Philippe Clement, Rangers’ manager, later revealed that the 20-year-old could be sidelined for “four to five weeks”【STV News】. However, Bardell suggests that if Cortes’ recovery takes longer than expected, the club might need to reconsider their transfer plans.
“All in all, it wasn’t a good opening to the season for Rangers,” Bardell told Ibrox News. “A draw without scoring a goal, plus the injury, just compounded the misery. Rangers can’t afford to lose good players.”
He added, “If it turns out to be more long-term, they might have to re-evaluate in the transfer market. But it already seems a bit tight. It has not been a good start to the season by multiple accounts.”
