Rangers’ interest in Godoy Cruz left-back Thomas Galdames has raised questions about Ridvan Yilmaz’s future at Ibrox, despite the recent signing of Jefte.
Jefte’s arrival, initially seen as a replacement for the departing Borna Barisic, was a surprise to many. Now, with Galdames on their radar, Rangers seem to be bolstering their left-back options further.
According to MDZ Online journalist Gonzalo Conti, the 25-year-old Galdames “has offers from abroad,” with Rangers and Belgian teams showing interest. Conti added on Twitter, “He has a contract until December but the pass is his. Maybe money will come into Tomba.”
This move could be financially beneficial for Rangers. Sky Sports reports that they acquired Yilmaz for £3.4 million in 2022, and his value has likely increased after a strong season as Philippe Clement’s first-choice left-back. Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack suggests Yilmaz could attract interest this summer, potentially fetching a fee “north of £5million.”
The pursuit of Galdames seems like a proactive approach. By selling Yilmaz at a profit, Rangers can reinvest funds while strengthening their left-back depth.
