Rangers Legends Endorse Lawrence Shankland Amid Transfer Speculation

Shankland recently played the hero for Scotland during the Euro 2024 qualifier in Georgia, coming off the bench to secure a crucial point in the qualification process. This performance has only heightened speculation surrounding the striker, leading Rangers legends to express their enthusiasm for the prospect of seeing him in the Light Blues jersey.

Former Rangers skipper Barry Ferguson, speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, pitched his endorsement to Shankland, stating, “Don’t get me wrong, he had a poor time of it in Belgium. He came back, and Robbie Neilson took the punt on him, and I’ll be honest, I think he was good when he left, but he is better since he came back. I think Lawrence Shankland, if he joined Rangers, would do a right good job and score goals.”

Kenny Miller, a former Light Blues’ attacker, echoed this sentiment, urging Rangers to secure the services of the prolific striker. Miller commented on BBC Sportsound, saying, “For me, his game has developed as each year passes, he’s matured into a really good all-round striker.” Miller expressed surprise that Rangers didn’t pursue Shankland in the summer, despite his impressive goal-scoring record.

Lee McCulloch, who coached Shankland during his time at Tynecastle with Robbie Neilson, added his perspective, stating, “For me, he should be a certainty (for the Euro 2024 squad). With him not being in the squad there, you just don’t know. When called upon, he has answered. He came off the bench, and got his goal and has a lot of people talking about him. If it was up to me, he would definitely be on that plane.”

Even former Hibs striker Tam McManus joined the conversation, playfully suggesting that the only way for Shankland to guarantee a spot on the flight to Germany would be to make a move to Govan. McManus said, “If he signs for Rangers, he is a certainty. I think if he signs for Rangers, he will be in the squad, so we will see what happens in January.”

As the winter window approaches, the speculation around Lawrence Shankland’s potential move to Rangers continues to gain momentum, with these Rangers legends voicing their support for the talented striker. Only time will tell if Shankland will indeed make the switch to Ibrox and become a pivotal part of Philippe Clement’s squad.
