Rangers Held Talks About Re-Signing Alfredo Morelos

Rangers engaged in talks regarding the potential re-signing of Alfredo Morelos, as reported by The Fourth Official. The discussions, however, were not given serious consideration, as the club ultimately opted for a forward-looking strategy.

According to the update, there were suggestions within the club about bringing back the Colombian striker, who boasts an impressive career tally of 177 goals. Despite the brief contemplation, these discussions did not gain traction and were not pursued further.

Morelos, currently a free agent after his release from Santos, parted ways with Rangers at the end of his contract in the summer. His departure followed a challenging final season marked by disciplinary and fitness issues.

“In fact, there were also suggestions of getting Morelos back to Rangers discussed which were thankfully never taken too seriously,” the journalist wrote.

The need for a striker in the upcoming January transfer window prompted Rangers to explore various options. The eventual signing of Fabio Silva is seen as a positive move for the club, even before the official opening of the transfer window.

Amid financial constraints, some fans had expressed a sense of urgency to secure a new striker, with Morelos even being floated as a potential option. However, the idea was deemed unfavorable, considering the circumstances.

While Morelos was a beloved figure during his time at Ibrox, the summer presented an opportune moment for both parties to amicably part ways after a season marred by discord. The current era at Ibrox, under the management of Clement, calls for a forward-looking perspective rather than dwelling on past players.
