Tensions flared outside Ibrox Stadium on Sunday evening as frustrated Rangers fans confronted manager Philippe Clement following the team’s crushing 3-0 loss to Celtic in the Old Firm derby.
Supporters, angered by the defeat at Parkhead, gathered outside Ibrox to await the players’ return, seeking answers and demanding a stronger response from their team. The loss marked a significant setback for Rangers, exacerbating the frustration among fans who expected a more competitive showing against their arch-rivals.
One fan, calling into Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on Monday, recounted the tense exchange with Clement. “I went up to Ibrox after the game because I wanted a reaction,” the fan said. “We were shouting at the gaffer, saying, ‘This isn’t Rangers, this is a disgrace,’ but he told us, ‘We just need time and patience.’ It’s like, you’ve had all the time in the world.”
The confrontation escalated when Rangers captain James Tavernier intervened. According to the fan, Tavernier responded by criticizing the supporters. “He came out of the bus and called us a disgrace, saying, ‘You’re supposed to be supporters.’ That just kicked everything off; I ripped my season ticket up right in front of him,” the fan shared.
The call concluded on a lighter note when host Gordon Duncan humorously questioned the fan’s claim of ripping up a season ticket. “How do you rip your season ticket? I thought it was a wee card nowadays,” Duncan quipped, leaving the caller momentarily speechless before they abruptly hung up.
The heated exchange outside Ibrox underscores the growing unrest among the Rangers faithful as the team struggles to find its footing this season.
