Rangers Defender Leon Balogun Signs New Contract, Report Says

Leon Balogun has secured his wish to stay with Rangers, signing a contract extension according to the Scottish Sun. Balogun’s previous deal was set to expire on May 31st, but the Nigerian defender will now remain at Ibrox until the end of next season.

Balogun’s desire to stay with the club was known after he expressed it following the Scottish Cup Final defeat to Celtic. This return marks his second stint with Rangers, having previously played under Steven Gerrard.

Balogun’s experience is seen as valuable by manager Philippe Clement, who is reportedly planning a significant squad overhaul. Departures are expected in several positions, with Connor Goldson, James Tavernier, Borna Barisic, John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, and Kemar Roofe all linked with moves away.

To bolster the defense, Rangers have already signed Brazilian left-back Jefte and are reportedly close to finalizing a deal for Panamanian center-back Jose Cordoba. Balogun’s extended stay provides much-needed experience for the Gers’ backline as Clement shapes his squad for the upcoming season.
