Following Rangers’ heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Celtic in the Scottish Cup final, defender Leon Balogun expressed his openness to extending his contract at Ibrox.
Balogun, who returned from injury to play the full match, acknowledged the calls from fans and pundits alike for him to stay. However, the veteran Nigerian international emphasized the need to move on from the defeat first.
“We will see. First we have to deal with this defeat now and try to switch off a little bit. Then we will see what the next weeks bring. I stood here two years ago and opened up about how much I love the club and that hasn’t changed so definitely there is an openness [to stay].”
Balogun’s future comes amid a potential summer rebuild at Rangers, with manager Philippe Clement hinting at significant player movement. While departures of Borna Barisic and John Lundstram seem likely, Balogun’s situation remains less clear.
Clement’s lack of defensive depth, especially with uncertainty surrounding Ben Davies and Connor Goldson, could make retaining Balogun a wise decision.
