Rangers “Courting” Investors to Boost Transfer Budget, Says Sky Sports Journalist

Sky Sports journalist Peter Martin reported on PLZ Soccer that Rangers are actively seeking new investors to bolster their transfer kitty for the upcoming summer window.

Martin claims the club is “courting” potential investors in a bid to strengthen the squad and stay competitive with their arch-rivals Celtic, who recently clinched their 54th Scottish Premiership title, putting them one title behind Rangers’ total of 55.

Philippe Clement, who took the helm at Ibrox in October 2023, masterminded an impressive turnaround in form for the club. However, narrowly missing out on the Premiership title has exposed areas needing improvement in the squad. Expiring contracts and transfer rumors surrounding key players further emphasize the need for reinforcements.

“The big key issue for Rangers is to try and work out a way to back Philippe Clement,” Martin said on PLZ Soccer’s X account (May 24th). “I know for a fact they have people coming into Ibrox, investors. They’re trying to get investors to invest to allow them to back him and give him enough money.”

Martin acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the success of these efforts. “Whether these people they’ve been courting will actually jump on the bandwagon and say, ‘ok, we’ll give you the money and let the manager have a go at it’ [remains to be seen],” he added.

Martin concluded by suggesting that attracting investors with “substantial amounts of money” might be Rangers’ most crucial signing this summer, if they are to maintain their rivalry with Celtic.
