Rangers Board Have ‘Huge’ Philippe Clement Problem, but Remains Supportive

Rangers manager Philippe Clement’s struggles against Celtic could pose a “huge problem” for club chiefs, according to Pete O’Rourke. The Belgian coach remains winless in five Old Firm matches after suffering a 3-0 defeat away to Celtic on 1 September.

In stark contrast, former title-winning Rangers boss Steven Gerrard managed to secure eight wins in 13 games against the Hoops, intensifying pressure on Clement. Despite this, sources indicate that the Rangers board remains supportive of Clement and are not considering a kneejerk reaction to the team’s poor start to the season.

Football Insider reported on 2 September that the club will not be rushing into a decision to sack the 50-year-old manager, who is still seen as a key figure in the team’s future. However, Clement’s position could face further scrutiny if his record in Old Firm matches does not improve and the gap with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership continues to widen.

Rangers currently sit five points behind their Glasgow rivals after just four league games. Adding to the pressure, the team was knocked out of the Champions League in the third qualifying round, losing on aggregate to Dynamo Kyiv.
