Philippe Clement Hints at Potential Free Agent Signings for Rangers

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has suggested that the club may explore the free agent market to bolster their squad following a busy summer of transfers.

Clement, who oversaw a significant overhaul at Ibrox, brought in several new faces early in the window, including the deadline-day signings of defender Neraysho Kasanwirjo on loan from Feyenoord and midfielder Nedim Bajrami for £3.5 million. However, the departure of key players like Todd Cantwell, Scott Wright, and Ben Davies, coupled with John Lundstram’s move to Trabzonspor, has left gaps in the squad.

Speaking ahead of Rangers’ upcoming clash with Celtic at Parkhead, Clement acknowledged the challenge of replacing Lundstram and hinted at the possibility of turning to free agents to fill the void. “Yes, we talked about that within the club and that was the initial plan,” Clement said. “So we now need to find solutions within the squad to do it in a different way to before.”

When asked if Rangers could still look at free agents, Clement confirmed, “That’s still a possibility, yes.” He also mentioned that some current squad members, including Connor Barron, Dujon Sterling, and Niko Raskin, could step up to fill the role left by Lundstram.

With the transfer window closed, Clement’s comments suggest that Rangers may yet make further moves to strengthen their squad as they navigate the challenges of the season ahead.
