Philippe Clement Hints at Kemar Roofe Contract Talks Amidst Injury Struggles

Philippe Clement has remained tight-lipped about the striker’s future with the club.

Addressing concerns over Roofe’s performance since his hefty £4.5 million transfer from Anderlecht in 2020, Clement acknowledged the Jamaican international’s sporadic displays of excellence amid injury setbacks.

“Kemar Roofe’s tenure at Ibrox has been marked by moments of quality, but also by injury challenges,” Clement stated. “While his instinctive prowess in the penalty box and Premier League-level intelligence make him an asset in ordinary circumstances, we can’t ignore the current situation.”

As Roofe nears a return to full fitness after another injury-riddled season, Clement hinted at ongoing discussions regarding a potential contract extension. Despite leaving Roofe out of recent squad selections, Clement expressed optimism about the striker’s recovery progress.

“He’s making strides towards full fitness, but it’s been a journey for him,” Clement commented. “Competition within the squad adds another layer to the equation. Nonetheless, Kemar has been putting in the effort in training and elevating his performance levels.”

With Roofe’s playing time limited this season, Clement emphasized the positive impact of increased competition for starting spots. However, he acknowledged the challenges of squad selection amidst a crowded field of talented players.

“Physically, he’s nearing the point where he can play a full 90 minutes,” Clement revealed. “But with competition from other players, it presents a welcomed dilemma for the club. It’s a testament to the depth of talent we have.”
