Kris Boyd Names Five Rangers Players in Team of the Week

Rangers have made a significant statement in the Scottish Premiership with five of their players earning spots in Kris Boyd’s Team of the Week, following a commanding 6-0 win against Ross County at Hampden Park on Saturday, August 24.

The emphatic victory, which saw Rangers kickstart their season after a shaky beginning, was highlighted by standout performances from Cyriel Dessers and Rabbi Matondo, both of whom netted twice and were duly recognized by Boyd in his weekly selection for The Scottish Sun.

Tom Lawrence also found the back of the net and secured his place in Boyd’s lineup, along with left-back Jefte and goalkeeper Jack Butland. This victory marks a turning point for Rangers, who had faced a challenging start to the 2024-25 campaign. Prior to their dominant performance against Ross County, the team had been struggling, with a disappointing loss to Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League qualifiers and dropped points against Hearts in the league.

Despite securing a 2-0 win over St Johnstone in the cup, the team’s morale had been low. However, Saturday’s victory has come as a timely boost, especially with the first Old Firm clash of the season just around the corner. Rangers manager Philippe Clement will be keenly aware of the importance of the upcoming match, as a loss could see his side already falling behind in the title race. A draw, at the very least, will be the target.
