Kris Boyd Expects Abdallah Sima to Be Benched for Old Firm Clash

Kris Boyd anticipates that Abdallah Sima, the standout player for Rangers, will feature primarily as a substitute, marking his return from injury.

The Senegal international had been showcasing remarkable form under the guidance of Philippe Clement’s managerial stint until a muscle injury sidelined him for a considerable two-month period. However, in a significant boost to the manager’s tactical options, the on-loan winger made his comeback on the pitch during Rangers’ 3-1 triumph over Hibernian on Saturday, albeit as a substitute.

Boyd, expressing his insights to Sky Sports (2 April), conveyed his skepticism regarding Sima’s starting position, attributing it to the stellar performances delivered by Fabio Silva and Cyriel Dessers in his absence.

“Yeah, I think it’s a boost obviously for the title run-in but I can’t see Sima starting either,” Boyd remarked, contemplating the lineup for the crucial clash.

He elaborated, “I think Rangers have been pretty settled in that area recently with Fabio Silva off the left and Dessers through the middle.”

Reflecting on Sima’s impactful initiation with Rangers before the unfortunate injury setback, Boyd emphasized Philippe Clement’s satisfaction upon the winger’s return, acknowledging his potential threat on the field.

“I think with the start that Sima had at Rangers, obviously it was a bad injury he got, but Philippe Clement will be delighted to have him back because he is a threat,” Boyd reiterated, underlining the significance of Sima’s return despite the probable role as a substitute in the upcoming derby.
