Kris Boyd Believes Rangers Striker Danilo Could Be a Key Player This Season

Kris Boyd believes Rangers striker Danilo could be a key player for the club this season, following a debut campaign hampered by injuries.

Danilo, signed for a reported £5.5 million from Feyenoord last summer, was expected to be a marquee signing for Michael Beale. The Brazilian forward’s early performances hinted at his potential, but injuries limited him to just 11 appearances.

“Rangers supporters are desperate for a new No 9 to arrive this summer,” Boyd said in the Scottish Sun. “But let’s also not forget about the £5million striker who is already at Ibrox.”

Danilo’s injury struggles are well documented. “A fractured cheekbone was followed by a knee operation — and Danilo has yet to kick a ball in 2024,” Boyd pointed out. “He played just 11 times under Clement and was badly missed in the title run-in.”

However, Boyd believes Danilo can still prove his worth. “I believe Rangers DO need to bring in another top-class striker this summer,” he admitted. “But I also wouldn’t be surprised if Danilo goes on to justify the money Gers shelled out on him last year.”

“Beale viewed him as his No 1 striker, and there is no doubt Clement felt the same way after taking over,” Boyd added. “Danilo impressed as Rangers started to hit their stride under the Belgian towards the new year. He showed pace, good movement, and clearly knows where the goal is.”
