Kevin Muscat was left “devastated” after missing out on the Rangers managerial role to Philippe Clement, according to former Gers player Craig Moore.
Muscat, who had been a strong candidate to replace Michael Beale following his sacking, ultimately saw Clement appointed as the new manager at Ibrox, as reported by talkSPORT on 15 October. Despite being in serious contention for the role, Muscat’s hopes were dashed when the Light Blues chose the Belgian over him.
Pressure is already mounting on Clement after Rangers suffered a 3-0 defeat to Celtic on Sunday, 1 September. However, according to Go Radio pundit Moore, the opportunity for Muscat to return to Glasgow has now passed.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (1 September), Moore said, “He had two interviews at the time and he lost out, and he was devastated to lose out at the time to Philippe Clement. He thought it was a great opportunity for him, and it would have been a great job. But Kevin is now doing a great job in China, and that ship has well and truly sailed.”
Muscat, who has been making a name for himself in management abroad, will now continue his career away from Ibrox, while Clement faces the challenge of turning Rangers’ fortunes around.
