Kenny Miller has voiced his apprehensions regarding the defender’s dedication to the club ahead of the summer transfer window.
Barisic’s potential departure has become a topic of discussion following reports from Croatian media outlet Germanijak suggesting that the left-back could be on his way to Turkish side Trabzonspor. However, Football Scotland has refuted these claims, although uncertainties remain regarding Barisic’s future at Ibrox.
Miller, speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on March 25, expressed his concerns, stating, “If this had been a month ago, I’d have said it probably wouldn’t have made too much of a difference. Yilmaz has come in and has been outstanding. He’s scoring goals now and, while not the same outlet as [James] Tavernier on the other side, he’s doing his job really well.”
He continued, emphasizing his main worry: “The only concern I’d have for Borna Barisic is where his head’s at because of his contract running down, two months left. Has he agreed to go somewhere else? Could he be protecting himself?”
With Ridvan Yilmaz sidelined due to injury sustained on international duty, Barisic’s role in the final stages of Rangers’ campaign could be crucial. Miller acknowledged this, stating, “If Yilmaz is injured, he’ll have a massive role to play between now and the end of the season in terms of trying to win leagues and cups.”
